Frequently Asked Questions
I HAVE A PRIMARY TEACHING QUALIFICATION, CAN I WORK AS A KINDERGARTEN TEACHER?
You need to have a recognised early childhood education qualification and be a registered teacher to be permanently employed by us. Teachers with a primary teaching qualification will need to undertake the one-year graduate programme to work for us.
CAN I WORK FOR KAITIAKI KINDERGARTENS IF I HAVE AN OVERSEAS QUALIFICATION?
Your qualification needs to be assessed by the NZ Qualifications Authority and approved by the Education Council for registration as a teacher. Once you receive registration status you will be eligible to apply for permanent positions with us. Teaching positions are advertised in the Education Gazette which is published fortnightly and on our website.
HOW TO GO ABOUT BECOMING A KINDERGARTEN TEACHER?
TeachNZ website has information about training providers and the teacher education programmes available. Teacher education programmes can be campus-based, online or in centre. You may also wish to view the Ministry of Education’s website to find out more about early childhood education.
